As we come upon two more of the busiest closing transaction days of the calendar year, I want to remind you to please be vigilant and hyperaware of your email correspondence and money transfers for real estate closings.
If you’re still unaware of the mass proliferation of email wire fraud in the closing industry, click here to learn more.
The hackers – the wire fraud thieves – are aware that we are processing a high volume of emails, wires, files, phone calls – in general it’s just plain crazy up in here. And the same can be said in the closing offices of attorneys and realtors and in the busy and unsuspecting minds of buyers and sellers all over metro Atlanta and the U.S.
Which means we are ripe to make a mistake or fail to follow protocol and send a wire transfer to Russia, or China; or perhaps a buyer might send their money somewhere other than to the closing attorney’s trust account.
So this is a bright orange sign on your highway today signaling the Danger Ahead! For our travels over the next couple days. Please be vigilant and safeguard your money and your emails and let’s all have happy, successful closings carrying into the long 4th of July weekend.
Blessings Abound! – Andy
